Role Mission: The CNP Nutrition Coordinator will assist the CNP Nutrition Team in achieving nutritional excellence at every school within the IDEA school district. The job functions include administering, planning, training, implementing, and evaluating to meet the nutritional and educational needs of children, as they relate to the CNP.  The CNP Nutrition Coordinator will support training, tracking, and communication of priorities and initiatives that support the CNP Nutrition Team, including menu compliance, participation and item acceptability, accuracy, and compliance in food production records (FPRs), menu substitutions, Healthy Kids Here efforts, and integration of commodity monies. This role assists in establishing relations among key stakeholders, education service centers, and related cooperatives.

 

Further, this position will play a crucial role in menu execution across the district by supporting ordering of commodity allocations and monthly and special event parent menus. The CNP Nutrition Coordinator will provide leadership in CNP efforts for the district’s local wellness initiative, Healthy Kids Here, by ensuring all IDEA campuses meet and consistently implement HKH measures to support establishing IDEA as the healthiest school district in the nation.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Assist in procurement of high-quality, nutritious ingredients with local and national vendors in all regions districtwide and coordinate delivery of samples of food items needed for menu and recipe creation and testing. 
  • Assist in the creation of HEI catalog to guide improvements in the nutritional content of macronutrients and micronutrients for all menu lines/meal programs (SBP, NSLP & CACFP) and collect relevant data with the goal of benchmarking IDEA HEI with key districts to identify areas of improvement 
  • Maximize & leverage cross-functional collaboration between CNP Nutrition Team & other IDEA departments (ex: Healthy Kids Here, Marketing, Communications, & Enrollment & Information Systems) to promote Support cross-functional collaboration between CNP Nutrition Team & other IDEA departments (ex: Marketing, Communications, & Enrollment & Information Systems) to disseminate survey feedback mechanisms.
  • Support cross-functional team collaboration to increase student and family access to Nutrition Education.    
  • Collaborate with CNP Nutrition Manager and CNP Nutrition Analyst to design, create & implement survey feedback processes for menus & special event meals that will be utilized by key stakeholders.
  • Provide on-site support during peak times of the year, including beginning of year (BOY), internal and external audits, National School Lunch Week, and National School Breakfast Week.
  • Create and ensure accuracy and availability of monthly nutrition education materials (e.g. parent menu) and make available for internal and external users 
  • Assist CNP Nutrition Manager in efforts to ensure menu compliance for all 5 menus lines including: evaluation of nutrient analysis, assignment of food production records in PrimeroEdge, approval of menu substitutions, completion of cost analysis and compilation of CN labels and cascading of state guidelines and compliance changes to CNP headquarters and campus teams.
  • Provide support in the design and delivery of districtwide trainings, targeted materials and resources including order guides, order schedules, and forecasting documents for accuracy 
  • Collaborate with Nutrition Manager to develop initiatives in partnership with an interdisciplinary team composed of staff and community members and assist in identifying strategies to engage and educate IDEA Team and Family including team members, parents, and students on health, wellness, and nutrition.   

 

Required Experience and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree or other advanced degree in relevant field preferred
  • Licenses or Certifications: Registered Dietician, preferred
  • Certified in Food Service Sanitation   
  • Certified Food Service Manager, preferred  
  • 3-5 years of experience menu planning, Primero Edge Software preferred  
  • 3-5 years of experience in school nutrition or equivalent  
  • 3-5 years of experience working for a school district.  
  • Indirectly manages campus-based staff

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 3-5 years of experience menu planning, Primero Edge Software preferred  
  • 3-5 years of experience in school nutrition or equivalent  
  • 3-5 years of experience working for a school district.  
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national policy for school meal programs (i.e., National Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, and Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Community Eligibility Provision.   
  • Business awareness with working knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and processes used in food management.   
  • Knowledge of safety, security and sanitation procedures and their implementation in food operations   
  • Strong computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).   
  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to understand and interpret data (charts, graphs, etc.).   
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.   
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills. Bilingual communication preferred.  
  • Demonstrates strong problem solving, adaptability and flexibility skills.   
  • Can work independently with little direction while seeking feedback from peers regularly.  
  • Can handle stress well to meet time sensitive deliverables.   
  • Able to work prolonged and irregular hours especially in the months leading to our first day of school with an expectation to travel approximately 30% of the work week.   

Team Goals:

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the team to reach the following ambitious goals:

  • Obtain a Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score ≥≥ 76 by LDOS 
  • Most current menus, recipes, and resources available 3 weeks prior to FDOS. 
  • Nutrition led internal audits completed by LDOS. 
  • Implement Nutrition Education Programming (2 family engagement events, monthly nutrition education, annual HKH cookbook) by LDOS. 
  • Collect Stakeholder feedback at least 2 times by FDOS.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salaries for this role typically fall between $55,063 to $65,525, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications
  • This role is eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment

 

Location: 

The Nutrition Coordinator must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Texas, with preference for one of our regions in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, or Tarrant County.
