Registered Nurse - IDEA Camp RIO (Immediate Opening)

Role Mission:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is primarily responsible for providing health services to campers and other guests who visit Camp RIO on a year- round basis. He or she will maintain accurate files and records of all services completed at the camp and will responsibly store and administer both prescription and non-prescription medications. The RN is responsible for leading the Camp clinic on his/her own, serving over 30,000 campers annually. All clinic staff report directly to the Camp Rio Operations Manager. Training and guidance will be provided by the Regional Registered Nurse and the Health and Wellness Department. Some evening and weekend work is required based on group/ summer scheduling. Summer Camp does aid the clinic.




Health Services
  • Follow Health and Wellness policies and procedures for providing student care.
  • Provide direct care utilizing professional triage skills, basic care, and established school health protocols, and work collaboratively with Telehealth to complete video doctor visits during summer sessions as needed.
  • Manage the Camp RIO clinic independently which can serve over 30,000 students.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students.
  • Notify parents of accidents or illnesses and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
  • Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at Camp with campus-based nurses during the year, and personal physicians during the summer.
  • Establish and implement effective procedures for pre-summer camp health screening.
    Ensure camper medical records are complete before they arrive to Summer Camps.



  • Serve as a health liaison between Camp RIO, physicians, parents, and community.
  • Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals, as needed.
  • Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items as needed.
  • Participate in recognizing and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Communicate regularly with the Camp Operations Manager, Regional Registered Nurse,
  • Outdoor Education Manager, Summer Camp Manager, food services staff, and other staff regarding health services issues.



  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic visits, student action plans, doctor’s orders, etc.
    Request supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, state department of health rules, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in health services area.
  • Report potential health and safety hazards to the Camp Operations Manager.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.


Professional Development

  • Maintain certification in CPR/First Aid/AED

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (minimum) College Degree (preferred)
  • RN (required)
  • Current certification in CPR/AED/ First Aid (required)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Knowledge of health conditions and health management care
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient keyboarding and electronic file maintenance skills
  • Ability to use laptop and software to develop and populate databases and do word processing
  • Ability to track, enter, analyze, and monitor data
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and execute toward goals



  • 2+ years’ experience in a health-related position required.
  • Experience with school-age children preferred.
  • Experience maintaining electronic health records preferred.


What We Offer

Compensation: Salaries for people entering this role typically start between $51,946 to $61,816 commensurate with relevant qualifications and experience. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.
