Role Mission: The CNP Nutrition Manager is responsible for supporting the CNP Director and Assistant Director of Nutrition in achieving nutritional excellence at all IDEA campuses throughout the district (. Currently, the IDEA District spans across 12 regions and 4 states with 90 unique campuses in total. This role is directly responsible for ensuring nutrition compliance of the menu offerings in accordance with federal and state agencies, and developing and establishing relations among key stakeholders, education service centers, and related cooperatives districtwide (5 Menu Lines: TX1, TX2, LA, FL, and OH)The CNP Nutrition Manager provides oversight in the development and analysis of healthy school menus that maximize nutrition content while accounting for student acceptability and meal cost parameters (5 Menu lines, 45 menus per year). In addition, the CNP Nutrition Manager is responsible for creating, maintaining, training, and auditing food production records and menu substitutions to maintain compliance districtwideFurther, this role directly manages food cost while also creatively managing the regionality of menus and ensure proper distribution of entitlement monies to be depleted by the last day of school districtwide. This individual also supports CNP efforts for the district’s local wellness initiative, Healthy Kids Here, which aims to maintain IDEA as the healthiest school district in the nation. 




Most current menu, recipes, and resources available 3 weeks prior to FDOS. 

  • Lead districtwide efforts to ensure menu compliance for all 5 menu lines including: complete nutrient analysis, all food production records assigned in Primero Edge, menu substitutions are approved, cost analysis is complete and communicated to CNP Finance Team, and CN labels are compiled and available to CNP teams.
  • Design and lead districtwide compliance trainings such as: meal programs offered in the district, identification of reimbursable meals, completion of food production records, menu pattern per grade group, menu substitutions and information pertaining to each new menu rollout.
  • Coordinate with local and national vendors to ensure all food orders are forecasted and delivered on time with minimal substitutions districtwide.
  • Ensure parent menus for all regions are accurate and available for internal and external users on a monthly basis.
  • Provide on-site support during peak times of the year, including beginning of year (BOY), audits, National School Lunch Week, and National School Breakfast Week.

Collect Stakeholder feedback at least 2 times by FDOS.

  • Collaborate with CNP Nutrition Analyst to design, create & implement survey feedback processes for menus & special event meals that will be utilized by key stakeholders.
  • Maximize & leverage cross-functional collaboration between CNP Nutrition Team & other IDEA departments (ex: Marketing, Communications, & Enrollment & Information Systems) to disseminate survey feedback mechanisms. 
  • Collect, manage & analyze survey data to identify trends and patterns in menu performance and acceptability.
  • Collaborate with CNP Assistant Director of Nutrition and CNP Culinary Team to identify items needed for sampling at schools and collect survey data from CMs, students and/or parents.
  • Cascade & report survey data results to key stakeholders, as necessary.

Nutrition led internal audits completed by LDOS.

  • Conduct districtwide audits for food production records (FPRs) to ensure they are accurate and compliant with state/federal guidelines.
  • Conduct districtwide audits for menu compliance to ensure recipes are executed correctly and portion sizes are accurate.
  • Conduct strategy, tactical, operational meetings, and trainings with campus CNP managers to improve process and completion of food production records and menu compliance.
  • Monitor the weekly CNP dashboard and/or CNP FPR Tracker to identify campuses with opportunities to complete food production records. Ensure food production records are compliant, complete, and accurate.
  • Cascade to CNP headquarters and campus teams the changes in state guidelines and compliance
  • Cascade audit results to CNP HQ and campus teams and implement corrective action steps, as needed.
  • Provide support for campuses in all nutrition related audit tasks and deliverables.


Obtain Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score of 76 by LDOS.

  • Collaborate with CNP Nutrition Analyst, CNP Assistant Director of Nutrition and CNP Director of Nutrition to improve the nutritional content of macronutrients and micronutrients for all 5 menus lines/meal programs (SBP, NSLP, CACFP)
  • Lead procurement of high-quality ingredients with local and national vendors in all regions throughout the district
  • Collaborate with Healthy Kids Here stakeholders to standardize nutrition education messaging districtwide.
  • Benchmark IDEA HEI with key districts to identify areas of improvement
  • Import nutrient data of all 5 menu lines to nutrient calculation software (NDSR) and ensure data is accurate and comparable to nutrient data on IDEA’s school nutrition software.
  • Manage, curate, & prepare NSDR output files for statistical analysis.
  • Ensures products meet or exceed internal nutrition standards
  • Attend local and state food shows and conferences to find products meeting established internal nutrition standards

Implement nutrition education programming (2 family engagement events, monthly nutrition education, annual HKH cookbook) by LDOS.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to increase student and family access to Nutrition Education.
  • Collaborate with CNP Nutrition Supervisor to develop initiatives in partnership with an interdisciplinary team composed of IDEA staff and community members.
  • Lead districtwide efforts to engage and educate IDEA Team and Family including team members, parents, and students on health, wellness and nutrition through mediums such as family engagement events and development of monthly nutrition education materials.
  • Ensure nutrition education materials are available to internal and external users and are factually accurate.
  • Maximize & leverage cross-functional collaboration between CNP Nutrition Team & other IDEA departments (ex: Marketing, Communications, & Enrollment & Information Systems) to disseminate nutrition education materials.
  • Supports HKH promotional efforts districtwide

-          Indirectly manages campus-based staff


Travel: 30%



  • Education/Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutrition science, food management, culinary science, or similar required.  Master’s degree preferred.
    • Registered Dietitian, preferred


  • Licenses or Certifications:
    • Certified in Food Service Sanitation
    • Certified Food Service Manager, preferred
    • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, preferred


  • Experience:
    • 3-5 years of experience menu planning, PrimeroEdge Software preferred
    • 3-5 years of experience in school nutrition or equivalent
    • 3-5 years of experience working for a school district


  • Knowledge and Skills:


  • Knowledge of local, state, and national policy for school meal programs (i.e. National Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, and Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Community Eligibility Provision.
  • Business awareness with working knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and processes used in food management. 
  • Knowledge of safety, security and sanitation procedures and their implementation in food operations 
  • Strong computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to understand and interpret data (charts, graphs, etc.). 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills. Bilingual communication preferred.
  • Demonstrates strong problem solving, adaptability and flexibility skills. 
  • Can work independently with little direction while seeking feedback from peers regularly.
  • Can handle stress well to meet time sensitive deliverables. 
  • Able to work prolonged and irregular hours especially in the months leading to our first day of school with an expectation to travel approximately 30% of the work week. 




  • Salaries for this role typically fall between $66,626  and $80,618, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications
  • This role is eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment
