Position Overview:
The Director of Business Information Systems (BIS) leads the strategic vision and overall administrative management, project management, and security of the district’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications, Tyler Munis and Salesforce respectively. The Director’s scope includes oversight of implementations, management and maintenance of Munis databases and servers (currently 7 separate entities and production databases) and Advancement Salesforce instances, custom reporting, and compliance. They will empower and support the organization in all business technology areas to meet ambitious financial, human resource, advancement, and student achievement goals, to facilitate business, and to sustain operations at scale at a high-growth, multi-state network. As an enterprise leader, the Director of Business Information Systems will provide strategic direction and value delivery with business partners by driving change and accountability so that the integration of the organizations ERP and CRM applications will maximize efficiencies across functions and to create a high integrity single source of truth for financial, fundraising/donor, human resource, and payroll data.
Location:
The Director of Business Information Systems must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Texas, with preference for one of our regions: Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, or Tarrant County.
What You’ll Do – Accountabilities
In this role, you will:
- Design a strategic vision to ensure the provision of reliable, secure, and effective enterprise applications that deliver efficient business processes for our business partners, staff members, and external vendors
- Create, design, and manage the ERP and CRM processes, procedures, and standards while also prioritizing governance and areas of high risk, designing intake processes, creating strategic visibility that enables accountability and data-driven actions, facilitating alignment and cross-functional collaboration, instilling quality controls, and implementing change management practices
- Directly manage the BIS team and ensure that ERP and CRM projects are executed effectively assuring value delivery that is efficient, compliant with laws and organizational policies, and within defined constraints (time, scope, budget, etc.)
- Oversee the project management—using project management tools, standards, and best practices—throughout the entire ERP and CRM implementation lifecycle (e.g., timely deployment of infrastructure or maintenance upgrades, annual data rollovers, implementation of new system functionality, etc.)
- Strategically plan for Munis and Salesforce system upgrades, new modules, and enhancements to include user requirements, testing, training, and development, and change management across all affected areas
- As the lead Munis consultant, collaborate with executives, lines of business, and IT management (regarding program requirements, product architecture, and implementation in areas of technical and business expertise) to maximize proper utilization of the ERP system, identify areas to improve efficiency, and prioritize projects that provide the highest potential value and align with organizational priorities
- Conduct market research and perform comprehensive information system needs assessments to drive enterprise-wide procurement decisions to support business and technology growth
- Lead cross-functional operating mechanisms, training, and development of materials to ensure that end users securely access Munis databases using the proper procedures, systems, and reporting capabilities
- Set the strategy for how Munis SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Salesforce reporting will be used to meet the reporting needs of the district and to maximize information delivery to key internal and external stakeholders
- Design governance methods and quality controls to maintain security and appropriate permissions for all Munis and CRM users for each database—currently about 1,600 Munis users and 10,000+ Munis Self-Service users
- Partner with internal stakeholders and third-party service providers to coordinate, troubleshoot, and expeditiously resolve database and/or server issues to ensure database and application uptime
- Develop, teach, maintain, and uphold knowledge management processes across the BIS department to ensure proper value stream documentation, reporting, and artifact collection, and to facilitate relevant, organized, user-friendly, and accessible information sharing
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the IDEA Munis ERP Administration Team, currently including the following positions:
- Business ERP Applications Manager
- Business ERP Reporting & Integration Manager
- ERP Application Administrator
- ERP Security & Document Application Manager
- HR/Payroll ERP Applications Manager
- Salesforce Application Manager
- Oversee the functions of System Administration, Implementation, Database Administration, Server Administration, Training, Report Writing, and Help Desk Support of the Munis ERP System
What You Bring – Competencies
Required Experience and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree highly preferred (business administration, management information systems, computer information systems or a related field preferred)
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time during the busiest parts of the year
Preferred experience
- Minimum of 5 years in training employees on all functions of Munis ERP System including the areas of Business and HR/Payroll
- Minimum of 5 years of experience implementing/upgrading system versions of the Munis ERP System
- Minimum of 5 years of experience administering the Munis ERP System for Finance, Human Resource, and Payroll modules
- Minimum of 5 years of proven large-scale, cross-functional project management and organizational change management in a high-pressure environment
- Minimum of 5 years of school district experience in both Business and HR/Payroll functions
- Minimum of 3 years working with SSRS and the Munis ERP System
- Minimum of 3 years of people management experience
- Proven experience in successfully leading continuous improvement projects that increase value, reduce waste, and improve financial performance
- Licenses or Certifications: ITIL 4 Foundations preferred

- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time during the busiest parts of the year
