Managing Director of Human Resources
The Managing Director of Human Resources leads the human resources program for an organization with over 12,000 employees across 11 regions in 4 states. The ideal candidate will have significant experience and expertise in human resources field, including policy development, employee relations, investigations, strategic design and execution, and legal/regulatory compliance at the national and regional levels, ensuring achievement of key human capital objectives including staff retention and organizational health. The Managing Director of Human Resources will build and develop a team of HR staff while continuing to provide regional support in these areas. The MD of HR Services will report directly to the VP of HR.
In this role you will:
- Lead organization-wide strategic initiatives with impact to all-staff, cross-functional teams that support reduced risk, improved systems, and fiscally sound operations
- Directly manage all regional HR Directors, develop regional staff to fulfill vision while meeting regional needs
- Collaborate across the Human Assets and HR team and in partnership with other HQ teams to develop and execute strategies to drive progress in retention
- Ensure all grievances (levels I, II and II) for the organization achieve either a resolution or recommendation based on the hearing findings
- Position IDEA in good standing with all authorizers, legal agencies and stakeholders (TEA, DOL, USDOE, External Auditors, Charter Authorizers, SBEC, TRS)
- Provide leadership on HR training initiatives and partner closely with leaders to develop consistent strategies and tactics to support when managing change
- Coach HR team members to effectively deliver and design adult learning programs/training sessions independently
- Promote a grow and develop mindset within IDEA leaders and support them to be able to: make good employment decisions, develop and support capable staff, provide managerial leadership, mentoring and direction, conduct crucial conversations, and identify and implement improvement strategies for specific skills and mindsets
- Utilize data driven insights to monitor HR metrics and trends and mitigate people related risks through proactive measures
- Lead efforts to enhance the organizations capability and effectiveness by recommending and facilitating programs that align with strategic goals and foster a high-performance culture; apply change leadership to ensure smooth transitions and successful implementation of new processes
- Partner with and influence cross-functional centers of expertise to ensure seamless delivery of HR programs and services across the organization
- Ensure the organizations compliance with all aspects of federal, state, and local employment law, staying abreast of new regulations and making recommendations regarding compliance
- Act as a key leader of culture and engagement, ensuring a unified culture with a well-understood mission, vision, and values that is lived and felt throughout the organization and drives strong levels of employee engagement
- Develop and maintain strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to speak comfortably and professionally to individuals and groups at all levels of the organization
Required experience:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in HR, Business, or a related field required; Master's Degree preferred
- At least eight years of experience in Human Capital and HR
- At least three years of successful management experience
- Experience in managing and implementing multiple projects
- Strong business partnership experience
- Expertise in organizational design and the ability to drive structural changes
- Strong collaboration skills with experience partnering across HR functions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strategic mindset with a track record of aligning HR initiatives with organizational objectives
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required
Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Provide vision, leadership, strategic planning, project coordination and management for the development of a cost-effective department while concurrently facilitating efficient operations to meet current and future needs within the organization
- Ensure continuity and successful deliver of functional services to users throughout the organization
- Analyze and direct all function-related activities within the scope of the HRIS
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with HR constituents and customer base; serve as an interface between internal/external customers and functional team members to ensure effective definition of and delivery of HRIS application
- Provide overall prioritization of work assignments and management of functional team resources and their activities
- Promote proactive approaches using the organizations HRIS to solve business needs/problems, while also enhancing the understanding and acceptance of the HRIS capabilities
- Build and maintain a strong functional team through effective recruiting, training, coaching, team building and succession planning
- Establish procedures to ensure all internal customers are assisted appropriately and in a timely manner
- Responsible for selection, evaluation, and supervision of direct reports
- Complete ad-hoc analysis as needed in support of strategic initiatives
Compensation & Benefits
Salaries for people entering this role typically start between $103,000 and $129,000, commensurate with relevant qualifications and experience. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment. Additionally, we offer medical, dental, vision, and supplemental benefits as well as retirement plans and a generous vacation package, including four weeks of school vacation time in addition to 15 annual Personal Time Off (PTO) days. Location:
The MD of HR Services must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Texas, with preference for one of our regions in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, San Antonio, Tarrant County, or Rio Grande Valley.
Travel Expectations:Up to 20% of the time during the busiest parts of the year
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises employees on the HR team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Is also responsible for effectively collaborating with a variety of internal stakeholders to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
