Description

 

Role Mission: Restorative Interventionist works directly with scholars who exhibit significant behavioral difficulties to ensure that they graduate from IDEA Public Schools and go to and through college by providing culturally responsive support. In collaboration with school leadership, interventionists are responsible for facilitating key systems that drive the achievement of scholars on disciplinary plans. The interventionist will ensure that each student is appropriately supported so that they can make progress towards their individual goals and learn to deescalate and build back trust with their school community.

This is a Brown Foundation Grant, grant funded position and funding may be extended. A grant-funded position has no guarantee of ongoing and indefinite employment. All duties and responsibilities tied to this position are allowable and allocable to the grant.

 

What We Offer

 

Compensation: 

  • The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $62,500. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. We also offer opportunities and incentives through our Teacher Career Pathway with the potential to earn up to $10,000 in additional compensation.   • Additional hourly compensation is provided for after school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.

 

Other Benefits:

We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for the base medical plan and subsidizing the majority of costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Some of the special benefits we offer at IDEA include:

 

  • Paid Family Leave: Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, based on their tenure with the organization and caregiver designation.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Staff members may apply for up to 50% of tuition paid toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 maximum per year subject to manager discretion and budget availability.
  • Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services available at no cost.

IDEA may offer a relocation allowance to defray the cost of moving for this role, if applicable.

 

What You Bring Competencies

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution required
  • Experience: Experience in a K-12 classroom setting strongly preferred
    • Expertise in the following is highly preferred: 
      • Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports
      • Crisis Prevention/Management
      • Restorative Justice Practices
      • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Practices
  • Licenses or Certifications: State certification preferred but not required

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned and ability to pass an IDEA content assessment
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment

 

What You’ll Do -- Accountabilities

 

Student Culture:

  • Supports the Restorative Room staff in program services related to restorative supports as they relate to solving conflicts and repairing harm within the school community.
  • Uses safe, responsible and respectful principles in providing services to students.
  • Provide input to the Restorative Room team regarding restorative, intervention and other data as presented on these topics.
  • Escorting students to and from the Restorative Room as needed, especially in cases in which there is a request for an escort due to a student in need or crisis.
  • Use of de-escalation strategies and supervision of students from the classroom or other school location to the Restorative Room.
  • Supports staff across the building by leading de-escalation and resolution of student conflicts by implementing restorative practices as needed.
  • Serves as member of the building Crisis Team
  • Assists when needed to keep daily records of student visits, conversations, and interventions.
  • Assist in facilitation or participation in restorative circles.
  • Assists the Restorative Room staff in engaging in restorative practice lessons with students.
  • Assists the Restorative Room/Program Coordinator and Restorative Specialist with outside resources to hold community nights throughout the year for parents to learn about mental health and other services in the community available to help their families and invites these services to meet with groups of those interested in further information or assistance.
  • Create safe spaces within the schools for students to deescalate and build back trust with their school community.

 

Community Culture

  • Develop and implement consistent communication with parents/families to both celebrate and address student behaviors.  
  • Proactively partners with families to ensure communication is timely (response to parents within 48 hours) and that all communication barriers are eliminated 
  • Collaborate with School Counselors to provide families/parents with appropriate interventions 
  • Support teachers/staff in meetings with parents and families if needed.
