Position Overview
The emergent bilingual (EB) coach/Regional Emergent Bilingual Manager in collaboration with the national English Learner team will oversee their regional portfolio of schools in ensuring that they are providing high quality instruction for their EB students and compliance support by coaching teachers and leaders during general classroom support, conducting side by side observations/walkthroughs of instructional environments, providing professional development opportunities for staff, data analysis, lesson plan feedback, and ensuring campuses maintain 100% EB compliance with all state and federal requirements. (This position is partially grant funded, position requires daily accounting/monthly tracking of daily activities)
Location:
This is a full-time position located in San Antonio. Preference will be given to candidates who live in the region, or who are willing to relocate.
Travel Expectations: Travel throughout the San Antonio region
What You’ll Do – Accountabilities
Essential Duties
- Provides support and assistance to classroom teachers and campus leaders in the full and skillful implementation of integrated and designated English Language Development (ELD).
- Conducts classroom observations, specific to language development and provides coaching support for all teachers and leaders with clear next steps and follow-up process.
- Provides on-site staff development to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about data-driven learning and effective instructional strategies related to English Language Development (ELD).
- Supports teachers and leaders in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the content and learning strategies embedded into established curriculum/curricula.
- Conducts demonstration and models lessons in classroom to ensure that all teachers [HA1]and leaders have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using instructional materials as designed, specific to integrated and designated ELD.
- Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students including English Learners, students enrolled in Special Education Programs, and students with diverse learning needs.
- Participates in collaborative regional (and occasionally campus) level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve English learner student achievement.
- Meets regularly with the regional leaders and campus principals/lead teams to review District/site-required assessment English learner data and to assess the outcomes of EL achievement goals.
- Supports campus English Learner coordinators in the identification and reclassification process of emergent bilingual students.
- Ensures 100% of required EB documents are obtained and maintained at the campus level using Ellevation
- Supports campuses with the mock TELPAS and TELPAS assessment windows
A Week In the Life:
Time | Description |
20 hours* 50% of time per week | Direct campus support (EB instructional rounds, coaching, trainings/PDs) clearly outlined in calendar. Campuses should be given clear next steps at the conclusion of these visits |
4 hours* 10% of time per week | Reviewing data and preparing for campus visits and/or conversations specifically for EB |
1.5 hours* ~4% of time per week | Attending EB tactical & EB instructional support meeting |
2.5 hours* 6% of time per week | EB instructional aligned and prioritized tasks (PD prep, update trackers, follow up on campus/leader next steps, calendar work time) |
8 hours 20% of time per week | EB compliance work/support |
1-4 hours ~3-10% of time per week | TBD by region: Examples: tacticals, checkins, step backs, celebrations |
* Time is under Title 3 grant
Required experience
- Bilingual or ESL Certification Required
- Bachelor’s degree required Masters preferred
- 1-3 years of experience teaching EB students
- Technology proficient (office 365)
- 3+ years of experience preferred
Required Skills
- Design and assist with delivering professional development for regional and campus teams around Emergent Bilingual support (Program Training, SIOP, LPAC, etc.)
- Deliver exceptional professional development around EB program which directly impact effective systems and increase leader and teacher capacity to transform and increase student academic achievement.
- Coordinate and collaborate with regional team members, campus leaders, and classroom teachers EB priorities and programming. Hold consistent Business Partnerships with regional and campus leaders.
- Coach and develop campus leaders through the School Leadership Levers (SLLs) and ensure the coaching cycle is followed with fidelity on behalf of campus leaders to classroom teachers and ensure observations are detailed in Teach Boost
- Complete Time & Effort for position funding appropriation

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $74,700 and $87,100, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
