Campus Literacy Coach

 

 

Role Mission:

Literacy coaches work with teachers and school administrators to enhance teachers’ ability to provide instruction that is engaging, academically rigorous, culturally responsive, and aligned to the curriculum standards and frameworks. Coaches focus their work on the implementation of school and district instructional priorities and adopted curricula, using student performance data and classroom observations to guide their work. Using the structures of department/grade level team meetings, professional development hours, and classroom based coaching, coaches work with teachers in small groups and one-on-one to support their improved practice.

 

This position is grant-funded with Comprehensive Literacy funds. This is a grant-funded position and funding may be extended. A grant-funded position has no guarantee of ongoing and indefinite employment. All duties and responsibilities tied to this position are allowable and allocable to the grant. The employee will work solely (100%) on allowable activities outlined in the grant program. 

 

Location:

This is a full-time on-site position located in Southern Louisiana. Preference will be given to candidates who live in the Southern Louisiana or who are willing to relocate.

 

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

                  Possesses and demonstrates a working knowledge of adult learning theory.

                  Applies these theoretical principles to professional learning in schools.

                  Facilitates student learning by training professionals to accurately collect, disaggregate, analyze, and interpret student data for planning content specific literacy strategies grounded in scientifically based research.

                  Determines professional development needs of instructional staff based on assessment data, classroom observations, conferences, needs assessments, and administrator recommendation.

                  Facilitates weekly peer coaching study team meetings.

                  Provides professional leadership in developing, coordinating, and implementing the East Baton Rouge Parish Adolescent Literacy program in cooperation with the Chief of Reading, Area Assistant Superintendents, and the Directors of Curriculum and Professional Development.

                  Participates in professional growth opportunities to continue developing their own skills and knowledge.

                  Promotes high quality staff development by implementing National Staff Development Council (NSDC) Staff Development Standards.

                  Assists in the selection, production and use of instructional materials.

                  Monitors the implementation of the district’s Literacy program

                  Works with teachers on diagnosis and solutions in relation to particular literacy problems including developmental dyslexia.

                  Informs teachers of current research and recommendations in the area of literacy in the content areas.

What You Bring – Competencies

 

Required experience:

Master’s Degree or higher preferred; minimum of thirty (30) credit hours in the specific content (highly qualified status in the content) from an accredited university required. Must possess a valid Teacher Certificate.

Technological Abilities: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in general use of a computer, the use of Email as a form of communication, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applications.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $57,100 and $68,500, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
